What a day...

Many of you that read this know that at about 10AM the skies opened up and started spraying snow flurries down on us and as of right now it hasn't yet stopped.  The weather isn't supposed to change this evening either.  I thought I was smart and left work at 3:45PM hoping to beat rush hour and get home with only minor delays.  Well, that was not the case!  I had anticipated picking up Samantha no later than 4:30PM, that certainly didn't happen either.

Maybe it's because I've lived in places like Watertown, New York and Ayer, Massachusetts that I am familiar with driving a little slower on snow covered roads, but apparently no-one in Central Ohio has ever heard of that concept.  I ran out of fingers and toes on my way home counting the fender benders.  I ran out of fingers and toes much earlier though, counting the number of cars that I had seen passing me at 80MPH that I later saw in those fender benders I was keeping track of.

An hour in to my drive and still not even half way home (note: my drive is 20 minutes max even during rush hour) I thought to myself that I was in the worst place on earth at that very moment.  All I could hear on the radio was DJs announcing new delays and Corey and Paige kept calling me asking me when I was going to get there.  (Not because they were worried about me, but because they were hungry.)  Horns are blowing all around me.  You know, I've never been able to figure that one out.  What exactly does one that blows their horn believe that sound will accomplish other than to annoy the other driver's around them?  Does that driver really believe that the person in front of him is not moving simply because he forgot to move and the horn is a mere reminder to do so?  Well, if you're a horn blower, here's my wisdom on this:  More times than not, the person in front of you is not moving because they CAN'T move forward because the person in front of them is not moving and so on down the line.  THERE IS NOT A CONSPIRACY TO DELAY YOU PERSONALLY.  NO-ONE ELSE WANTS TO BE THERE EITHER!  BLOWING YOUR HORN IS RIDICULOUS!  If I've offended any of my horn-blowing readers, I'm sorry, but get a grip already, really!

So, after an hour and a half of this nonsense, I finally get to my exit only to find that the lovely Central Ohioans are having none of following the rules of the road today.  I sat at a light trying to turn left for 20 minutes.  Apparently, in Central Ohio, when there is snow on the ground, the rules change and you must pull into the intersection even though you will not clear the intersection and hold up the traffic going the other direction through several light sequences.  In order for this to work, you have to coordinate this with several other drivers traveling the same path as you in order to hold up the traffic attempting to go the other direction for as long as possible.  I think there must be teams that get called in to action when the snow hits here to accomplish this very phenomenon.  It was then that it was confirmed that I was in the worst place on earth today and I decided I was going to do it!  I ran the red light!  I was so proud of myself!  I also in that one simple act of lawbreaking, managed to hold up the traffic going the other way for several light sequences.  This was quite a good feeling of redemption that I enjoyed all the way to picking up Samantha!  Count 1 point for Jenn, 0 for the bad guys!

It occurred to me during the time spent driving from picking up Samantha to home, that the worst place on earth is my hometown today.  I thought to myself, "I wish I was at DisneyWorld."  That is The Happiest Place on Earth!

After arriving home, I managed to convince the kids to shovel the sidewalk and driveway while I made dinner and hot chocolate.  The hot chocolate was the bribe that won me the shoveling.  When the kids finally came in and we all settled in to dinner, I thought once again about the worst place on earth and the happiest and realized that my home is the happiest place on earth, and DisneyWorld is second!  Watching the kids putting marshmallows and peppermint into their hot chocolate and seeing their smiling faces make it all worth it.  I still don't like horn blowers though, yuck.

And of course, I try to make sure I post photos each time, so here's some photos of the 2nd Happiest Place on Earth! Enjoy!
