Corey's tooth extraction

Corey's tooth extraction on Friday went very well. His surgeon told me he was a perfect patient!

It was so hard to see him after the surgery because he was still pretty out of it. Something about that really hit me hard and I was alarmed by how out of it he really was. Seeing your child that way is pretty emotional.

Corey has managed his pain with ibuprofen only. He hasn't needed any prescription pain killers at all. I'm glad we had the prescription filled though just in case.

Needless to say, Corey was STARVING afterwards since he wasn't able to eat the night before and he wasn't scheduled until 12:30 for surgery. Our first appointment that day was at 10 am so we stopped by a park to pass the time until his surgery. Here are a couple photos he let me take of him at the park.

Corey was adamant that I not take his photo or video record him after his surgery. He forgot to mention tape recording him talking though! After he was able to walk and talk, I recorded him on his way to the orthodontist after his surgery. He was so funny! I couldn't resist! Click HERE to listen.

Some parts are hard to understand, so I did my best to transcribe the conversation below:

Jenn: We’re going to try to stop at McDonald’s or some place before we go to Dr. Hutta’s, remember we have to put your wire back in.

Corey waves

Jenn: You happy about seeing the Pizza Hut there?

Corey: I like pizza.

Jenn: You like pizza

Corey: Luigi’s is the best

Jenn: Who?

Corey: Luigi’s

Jenn: Is it? Okay.

Corey: No pictures

Jenn: This is not a camera honey, it’s my cell phone. My blackberry

Jenn: Alright you be on the lookout for a Wendy’s or a McDonald’s okay.

Corey: Yes

Corey: Which way should I look?

Jenn: Either way, if you see one let me know, I’ll be looking too

Corey: That’s a good place. (Olive Garden)

Jenn: Yeah, I don’t think they’d have anything that we’d want do you?

Corey: No.

Corey: Mom

Jenn: Yeah, what?

Corey: What happened?

Jenn: To what, what happened to what Corey?

Corey: Why does my mouth hurt?

Jenn: Honey you had the surgery remember?

Corey: No, I don’t.

Jenn: We did honey you just left.

Jenn: You okay?

Corey: Yeah, I’m fine.

Corey: I’m hungry.

Jenn: Yeah, I know we’re trying to find a McDonald’s or a Wendy’s.

Jenn: Remember that?

Corey: Yea.

Jenn: Okay.

Jenn: There’s a McDonald’s right there.

Corey smiles and waves to McDonalds.

Jenn: You happy about that?

Corey: Yea.

Jenn: Okay.

Jenn: You think just some ice cream real quick.

Corey: Aaah.

Corey: I’ll look at the menu, I can read.

Jenn: I know you can read.

Jenn: I need my purse real quick. Corey reaches for it and misses.

Jenn: Thank you.

Corey: Did you forget your camera?

Jenn: No, it’s still in the back seat. You want me to take your picture?

Corey: No.

Jenn: Okay.

Jenn: Alright their desserts are McFlurries. Looks like they might have some shakes and ice cream cones too.

Corey: I’ll take vanilla milk shake.

Jenn: Vanilla milk shake okay.

(order at McDonald’s)

Jenn: What size?

Corey stares at me blankly so I just order medium.

Corey smiles and waves at the car in front of us.

Jenn: Do you know them?

Corey: No.

Jenn: Okay.

Corey: Is that a camera? (There was something outside of the drive-thru window)

Jenn: I’m not sure what that is.

Corey: Jack said I’d feel loopy, but I don’t feel loopy at all.

Jenn: You don’t feel loopy?

Corey: No.

Jenn: That’s good.

Corey starts reaching towards me.

Jenn: What do you need?

Corey: I want to play brick breaker (on my cell phone)

Jenn: You want to play brick breaker?

Jenn: Yeah? (Corey nods yes)

Jenn: Okay.

Corey was back to his usual self by 3:00 and decided he would like to go to the cabin. I was a little leery of that choice, but decided why not, if anything, it would keep his mind off of his pain, so we left for the cabin and came back Sunday afternoon. We had a wonderful time.

So, we're back to the usual grind this week. Paige has cheerleading clinic all week and and tryouts on Friday. Wish Paige luck!
