I'm so glad Jack and I decided to spend some time at the cabin this weekend. We left Thursday afternoon and arrived to a relatively warm day comparatively speaking. We had our plans all worked out as to what we wanted to accomplish.

  1. Open the pool and get the filter running daily
  2. Look at the plumbing for any freeze damage
  3. Mow the lawn
  4. Check for anything that may have occurred over the winter
  5. Relax
We accomplished 2 - 5. So I'm happy with our trip. We forgot to bring the filter hoses for the pool and the solar cover, so we weren't able to get that part accomplished even after driving in to Mason, WV to the Walmart and buying replacement hoses. The pool filter just didn't like the hoses. Oh well.

Thursday was spent siphoning off the water on top of the pool cover so that we could get the pool cover off. Lots of rain and snow had collected on top and we had a bunch of water to get rid of. We did finally get that done and get the cover off and we had crystal clear water in the pool. Looks like I closed the pool for the winter the right way finally! Sure beats opening it last year to find tadpoles living in the pool. That was so gross!

We also repaired a cracked PVC pipe behind the shower and eventually had cold water running. The issue was the hot water heater. We had it repaired after a crack from cold weather at the end of last year, but there is a seal that just wouldn't close tightly enough so it wouldn't leak. So no hot water AGAIN! That seems to be a common theme there lately...

Thursday night I beat Jack at Trivial Pursuit. It was embarrassing how badly I beat him. He'll never live this one down EVER!

Friday, we bought the hoses for the pool at Walmart as I mentioned before, and stopped at Long John Silvers on the way home. Lent ya know! Jack did a tune up on the riding mower and managed to get the lawn mowed. I started a campfire Friday night and Jack and I enjoyed the fire until we got too cold to stay outside. Then we went inside for some Karaoke. We always have fun claiming we know all the words to a song and then messing up!

This morning Jack woke me up because he was cold and wanted to leave. I had a heating blanket on the bed, but Jack was up and about this morning and our fire in the wood burning stove had burned out and it was freezing! I obliged and we packed it up and headed for home. All in all we got a pretty good head start on the cabin this year! Hopefully they'll be more of #5 happening at the cabin this year than in previous years.

Here are some photos I'd like to share. We took a bunch because there are so many beautiful photo opportunities there. There certainly would have been more if the kids had been with us, but that will come shortly. Corey and Paige are enjoying a trip to Maryland on Spring Break with their Uncle Greg, Aunt Teena, and their cousins and we know they're having a blast. Samantha is spending some time with her mom, hopefully enjoying this nice weather we're having, otherwise I'm sure they would have enjoyed this time with us! Enjoy the photos! The first batch are of Thursday and the second batch are photos taken on Friday.
