Holy Cow!

Okay, so the Nikon D40 came in yesterday so obviously I drove at top speed to go get it.  Can you believe I had to wait an hour and a half to charge the battery!  Ugh!  I was like a kid at Christmas that just got the best toy ever and mom and dad didn't have batteries!  (Note to self:  Don't forget to have batteries on hand at Christmas!)  Anyway, I waited the hour and a half to charge the battery and in the mean time read the manual, at least as long as my attention span could stand (about 5 minutes).  Then popped in Season 3 of the Sopranos and watched that until the battery was charged.  Honestly what happened was I had Sopranos as background noise while I watched the light blink on the charger.  Duh.  Finally, the battery was charged and I set the time, language, all that bologna that just gets in the way of playing with your new toy.  You know the deal!  Finally, it was time to take a picture.  Oh no!  I am home alone!  So I took pictures of the stupid chair in the basement, etc. until I realized it just wasn't gonna happen for me last night.

Today, I decided, (still home alone mind you) that I had birds and plants and took some photos of those.  Still  quite a downer compared to what I had imagined when the new camera would arrive, but it sufficed.

So, as far as the battle in my home.  I win!  I took a photo of a leaf on a plant with the D40 and the same shot with the DX6490.  Applied the same settings to both cameras and edited in the same software.  No comparison.  So here you go!  What you've all been waiting for (at least what I've been waiting for and will subject you to it selfishly) is the comparison!

DX6490 - Even though I'm obviously trying to just shoot the leaf, the camera still tries to focus on all things in the viewfinder, resulting in a grainy background and weird discoloration.

D40 - allows me to ignore what I'm not shooting and gives me a very blurred background of what I don't want and controls the color because of it knows what I'm after, the leaf!  Leaving the color true.

Oh, I can't wait for my models to get here!  I miss them so much and I know they'll let me snap photos with the new camera!  Until the newness wears off for them and they just want me to stop again!  "Mom, can I finish eating before you take any new pictures of me?"
