The Christmas Concert

There is, of course, a story that leads up to this.  The kids all know not to call me at work (texting is okay) unless there is an emergency.  The kids haven't called me at work in ages - since I explained this needs to happen only in an emergency.  So, last Friday I got a call at work from Corey on my cell.  Of course, I'm sitting in my boss' office solving the world's problems and I have to say, "Sorry, it's my son I need to take this.  He knows only to call if there is an emergency."  I answer the phone and of course there was truly an emergency (in Corey's mind anyway), a fashion emergency!  He was at his dad's and realized he needed his pants, shirt, and tie for the concert on Monday!  I politely asked Corey if I could call him back later.  Not quite as big an emergency in my opinion as he thought it was.

When my meeting was over I called Corey back.  He told me very matter-of-factly that he needed his black pants, black tie, and white shirt.  I didn't even think twice, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.  I told him that he could pick them up on his way to his dad's from school on Monday in plenty of time for the concert Monday night.

So yesterday, I decide I'll go ahead and set out his things so they'll be ready to be picked up.  Lo and behold, Corey doesn't have black pants or a black tie!  Ack!  I'll have to buy these for him as it is certainly not polite at this late time to call his dad and tell him Corey doesn't have these things and expect him to find this stuff in time for Monday night.  The irony is that Corey said, "I need my black pants, tie, and shirt" when he has no such thing is a gas!  How do you imagine clothes you don't own?  Anyway...

During my lunch today, I headed for Kohl's.  It occurred to me that since Corey only imagined he owned this clothing, that it is possible that Paige wasn't quite aware of her wardrobe either.  I decided to make a call to find out if anything else was needed.  Sure enough, Paige needed a white top and shoes, and oh by the way, Corey didn't have shoes either!  Ack!

$90 later, Corey and Paige were outfitted for this concert.  Thank God for the 40% off at Kohl's or I might have needed to borrow money for this!  But hey, they look nice at least!  What lesson did I learn?  Corey might sound like he knows what he's talking about, but sometimes he really has no idea!  :-)

The concert was fabulous of course and they played very well.  Better than I had anticipated.  Very proud moment for mom!  The guests; Samantha, Jack and I, enjoyed the concert very much!
